GUIDE Service

Our guide service does one thing well.................

We teach you how to fly fish!

That's it.  We can do all the other things other guides do.  We can put you on BIG fish, we can catch ALOT of fish....but what we stress more than anything is the simple proverb of:

"Give a man a fish, you'll feed him for a day.  Teach a man to fish and you feed his soul for the rest of his life."

Old School Steel

I've been fishing my whole life.  I've been guiding in SE WI for Salmon and Trout for a LONG Time.  I'm an experience angler and would be happy to teach you my fishing principles.  Each guide or fly fishing lesson entails a detailed description of:

a.  Fish Needs

b.  The River Doctrine  including

      the "FIXED THREE"

      the "WiLLFul" presentation method

  • SE Wisconsin Fly Fishing Trips

From the Pike River in Kenosha, as far north as you can go.  We've fished it for salmon and steelhead.  While we focus in the Milwaukee Area we fish all across the Great Lakes Region.  We'd be happy to show you what SE Wisconsin has to offer in Lake Michigan Salmon and Steelhead fishing.

Full Day Fly Fishing (6 to 8 hrs)                             $150/person

Half Day Fly Fishing (3 to 4hrs)                              $75/person

    GUIDE Service Description and Offering:

The “Nation” calls the Lake Michigan tributaries Home.  We fish for Salmon and Trout in South East Wisconsin.  Our Passion is the Spring Steelhead run.  Fall offers tremendous Brown Trout and Salmon fishing.  The Lake Michigan fish are an excellent game fish to take on a fly rod or noodle rod.  These species allow an angler an excellent opportunity to land LARGE fish in a Mid-West setting.

    FALL SALMON & TROUT FISHING

The “catching season” starts in late summer.  With heavy rain, August is a great opportunity to catch the returning 4 year old salmon and early run brown trout.  The King salmon are the first to return to the Lake Michigan tributary systems.  Kings, Cohos, Browns and Steelhead round out the fishing opportunity in the fall.

River and stream fishing for these large fish is an ultimate thrill.  Wading picturesque stream (really, there are some great rivers in downtown areas!!) with fly fishing gear or spinning rods easily takes these challenging game fish.  Whether you want to fish for King Salmon on the beautiful Kewaunee or Steelhead fish the Pike, The Nation knows the rivers and the fishing strategies associated with catching BIG FISH!

The Root River is Centrally located between Milwaukee and Chicago.  This river provides an excellent opportunity to fish for large quantities of fish as the river is one of the main egg collecting facilities in the state.  Typically, fall salmon range from 10 to 25 pounds with an occasional fish hitting the 30 pound mark.  The salmon readily take drifted flies or spawn.

    WINTER & SPRING STEELHEAD FISHING:

In winter, steelhead and wintering brown trout offer a challenge to open water, winter anglers.  These elusive fish will take small flies presented to them but require skill and stealth.  During the Spring, steelhead attack flies, spinners, and spawn with reckless abandon.  The ‘elusive’ steelhead offers anglers the challenge of tackling a hard hitting, acrobatic and beautiful fish.

In spring, the different strains of steelhead return to the Lake Michigan tributaries and spawn.  The steelhead return continues through late winter into early summer.  Steelhead runs are flow dependant and typically start the end of March and run through mid April.  Bright flash flies, nymphs, eggs and spawn will hook steelhead.

NORTH EAST IOWA & SOUTH WEST WISCONSIN TROUT:

Inland trout fishing and our ‘NATION FLY SCHOOL’ occupy the rest of our fly fishing season.  Look for the FAT TRUCK in NorthEast Iowa and SouthWest Wisconsin.  The Nation loves to go to Iowa and catch the 10-12 inch weekly stocked rainbows.  If stocked bows aren’t your ticket Iowa has some excellent natural streams with browns that go over 2ft!

    A free Nation Tip:

    TROUT FISH IN IOWA!!!

While Iowa isn’t known for trout fishing….it should be!

When Not in Iowa, you can bet the Nation is pounding the home waters around Wisconsin. The Nation pursues Muskie and Pike on the Fly.  The greater Milwaukee area is home to some awesome Muskie and Pike lakes.  Fly fishing these water wolves provides an excellent opportunity to challenge an experienced anglers casting skills.

MUSKIE FLY FISHING IS NOT FOR THE FAINT AT HEART!

Whether you’re looking for small brookies in the north, Large Tributary salmon and trout, Iowa fly schools or Muskie in the Hyde drift boat, we can put you on fish.   Pick a tactic, dry fly, shooting line, high sticking, fast riffle nymphing, swinging big streamers, the Nation can provide you the confidence you need to be a successful angler.

In an instructional setting whether it’s Fly Tying or Casting.  We are a one stop shop!  We can provide you the hands on experience to become more confident in your skill level.  Your comfort level will determine your ability to perform instructional tasks.  Our Priority is to establish a comfortable learning environment that allows you the student to learn productively.
